Archive Event: March 21, 2015

“Making and Distributing the Independent Film” featuring the creators of “The Living.”

“The Living” is an intense thriller that builds to a tremendous finish.  The story of the making of the film is one that anyone who is an aspiring filmmaker or making a film now should hear.  From the creative and technical of making the film to getting it financed and distributed, the Shooting Films team is coming to share a lot of great information.   From shooting to editing to sound to color to ultimately getting the film into festivals and distribution.

Shot entirely on location with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, “The Living” shows how redemption, revenge, forgiveness, inhumanity interweave in an ill-fated tale of life and unforeseen circumstances.   Joining the panel will be Producer, Writer, Director Jack Bryan.  Producer Laura DuBois.  Producer John Snyder.  The panel will be moderated by Atlanta Cutters Co-Founder Walter Biscardi, Jr.

“The Living” Cast includes Fran Kranz, Jocelin Donahue, Kenny Wormald, Chris Mulkey and Joelle Carter.  The film is an official selection of the Austin Film Festival, Tallgrass Film Festival, Manhattan Film Festival, Las Vegas Film Festival, Woods Hole Film Festival and had a special screening at the Tribeca Film Institute.  The film is distributed by Monterey Media.

This is a fantastic opportunity to not only ask these creators about the technical and creative side of making an independent film, but also the financing and distribution side.  Yes it’s great to have all these creative ideas, but how do you get them funded and ultimately distributed so others can see your work?

We’re excited to kick off the new Panel driven format Atlanta Cutters with this incredible group of creatives.  As with all of our panels, while we will have a moderator, the entire presentation is open to Q&A, so come on out and be a part of the discussion.  We thank Blackmagic Design for bringing “The Living” panel to Atlanta.   You can read more about this talented group down below the Raffle listing.

Director’s Statement

“I wanted to make a film that tackled real characters and relationships. As those relationships developed I would slowly introduce elements of suspense and terror, building to a climax that was exciting and shocking. I sought out to make a thriller that was beautiful, exciting, and incredibly affecting.”
